The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a check-up when the first teeth erupt or at least by age one. At this visit we can instruct the parent on how to care for their child's teeth and what to expect in growth and development.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends no later than age 7 or when a concern is detected by the dentist or parent. Some problems can be better treated at an early age but we welcome patients of all ages (including adults!) for an orthodontic evaluation to see how great their smile can be. And the initial orthodontic consultation is complimentary.

Of course! In fact, about 25-30% of orthodontic patients are over age 18. And options like Invisalign make treatment for adults more comfortable and less noticable than ever.

Every child is unique so we determine the best treatment options individually for each patient. Many children can be treated without any medication if managed properly. Sometimes "laughing gas" can help them relax for dental procedures and if needed oral sedation can be used. Hospital dentistry where the child is "put to sleep" can be utilized if the patient can not cooperate for treatment in the office.

Insurance payments depend on the specific policy benefits convering the patient. We try to help our patients get the most of any insurance benefits they have and most dental plans can be accepted at our office. Rarely does dental or orthodontic insurance pay for 100% of dental treatment, so the patient will have some financial responsibility. For our orthodontic patients we offer several payment options to make treatment affordable.

Orthodontic treatment is usually 1-3 years, with 18 months being average. We can give you a better idea at a complimentary orthodontic consulation.

We see pediatric patients from newborn to 20 years old. Usually sometime from 18-20 years old the patient is ready to see a general dentist for continued dental care.

The fee depends on the complexity of the treatment and patient evaluation is necessary before an exact amount can be determined. We do not charge for the inital no-obligation orthodontic consultation, so it costs you nothing to find out the recommended treatment, finanical investment and time involved. And, we do not charge extra for Invisalign treatment, so it is the same cost as braces in our office. We work with insurance and offer several payment plans to help you fit orthodontic treatment into your budget.

The short answer is "as long as you want your teeth to be straight." Like the rest of your body, teeth change with time and that change is usually to crowd more. However, you can keep the teeth aligned with regular retainer wear. Every night is ideal for the rest of your life, but many patients maintain good alignment with 4-5 nights per week. Retainers do wear out and should be replaced as recommended by your orthodontist.
